Bilingual Preschool

Bean will be homeschooled. This decision, like many others I've made, was determined years before he was conceived.

But, I'm big on immersion so my mind started to wander to the possibility of sending him to a bilingual preschool. He's just a little tater, so it's not like we'd be sending him tomorrow; but as you will soon learn- I love to plan in advanced.

So I started looking into it, and I immediately stopped when I saw the price tag. $800 a month. Do you know what I could do with $800 a month? Do you know how many videos, books, DVD's, and supplemental activities I could buy with $800 a month? Heck, we could save that money and go stay in Mexico for a little bit each year.

I'm going to have to pass on that idea and go back to my original plan. But I did find a lovely weekly mommy-baby Spanish class for less than $200. That, I can handle.

  1. I totally understand the frustration when looking at the price tag for immersion school experiences. We have two immersion private schools in this area, and they are both about $20,000 per yer per child. Definitely out of our budget.

But, today I found a Spanish Saturday class that was affordable. So, I'll see how that goes...

  2. Yes, it's crazy. $800 to color and throw blocks three times a week. Maybe I am just being cheap, but that sounds outrageous to me.

    As for private immersion schools...yikes!

  3. I just found your blog. Fun! We are venturing down the bilingual trail with our son as well.

Does your local school district (public) have Spanish immersion programs? That won't help now, but might be a great opportunity once he hits kinder.

  4. No, my school district doesn't but it would be nice if they did. There is a school district in the area that does, but from my understanding it's not full immersion; it's only partial. Also, it's a lottery system. But who knows what things will look like in a few years!
